Default A quick turbo question.

I was talking with one of my buddies that recently put a pair of turbos on his 350sb. I'm all about raw power, and making things look/sound good. My dad and I are mechanics but, we wanted to add dual turbo's on my Camaro. My friend said to get the turbo's off of a mack truck, or something similar. With adaptors, and the correct piping, is this a safe alternative to going out, and buying a brand new turbo kit?

The turbo on a Mack truck is made for a 13L (800 ci)diesel, and the turbo isalmost as big as your engine, better look into something more size appropriate.

actually pete, the turbo's on the heavy duty diesel engines arent that much bigger than automotive turbo's on the inside. they just have bigger housings for durability and added heat dissapation. however, you are right also. a diesel turbo is far too much for an automotive engine

my dad used to work on diesel engines. a turbo from one of those things is way too big for a small block. the turbine in it would decrease exhaust flow because your engine would struggle to push out the exhaust. if you ask me, a supercharger is easier because theres no plumbing, no exhaust crap, and they look cool, let alone they also dont need wastegates. i know this guy that spent over 500 buying upgrades for a turbo on an srt-4 to get only like 20 to 40 hp.

What are your goals for power? A pair of 16g turbos at around 20psi would yield in the neighborhood of 700whp.

I'm looking for the neighborhood of 500+ hp. I just purchased a heavy duty driveshaft, and some rear gears made for drag racing. So, now I think it's ready for some more power.

ok i'm new to muscle cars i have a 67 camaro(i've had it about a yrand i just got a 03 z06. i'm coming from imports(yes i finally saw the light as my dad puts it). i just wanted to comment about the SRT-4. depending on the modsand how much over 500 is 20-40 hp isnt that bad. I would guess he just got basic bolt ons. now if he wanted more power, bigger turbo with fuel and supposing mods, tuning couldrun3k and up.ok a question about camaros now does anyone t3/t4? and usually what size IC do people use with them or any other set up?
