Default Yet another n00b!!

Hello all, name is Adam, joined today from sunny (or rainy as of the past week) NorCal.

Ive been in the Supra scene (MKII - 2nd generation or 82-85 year models for those that don't know) for the past few years, and while I love the cars to death, they are slowly growing a cancer on my patience. Being a rarer car, parts are hard to find, good cars are hard to find, and good power is expensive as all... heck (hey look, a newb read the rules). My first car was a POS 82 camaro if that counts for anything though Ive been looking for something to play with that already has some decent power, parts that are readily available if i need, with a good aftermarket support. At first, the list started at 3 cars (GTO, Cobra, Camaro), then knocked the GTO off the list since I couldn't find what I wanted in the area. After a short time knocked the Cobra off the list, because I realized that I really really dislike Ford products produced after 1956 (I have a 1956 f100 project pickup thatll probably never be finished, so I set the cutoff there ).

While I do not own a Camaro yet, I am in the market... I have a couple cars lined up to go look at this weekend, I decided to find a forum with some "experts" to get some pointers before I do. Since I dont feel like asking in another area when I have so much free white space in this post box, I'll just ask here.

The cars I'm going to go look at are all 2002 Z28's. I would opt for the SS, but really, the difference in price between the two for what you get doesnt justify me doing it... I have some ideas for power and suspension upgrades anyway, so in all, whatever I get will come out better than an SS (mainly because I built it, not some factory worker).

When I go look at the cars, as I learned from looking at many many many old school Supra's, every car, no matter how old or how new have their problem areas... Mechanical issues, rust, paint, whatever. I'm wondering what areas i should pay specific attention to. Most importantly would be hidden rust areas. It's probably my mindset of looking at older cars, but rust bothers me more than anything else... Id rather replace a faulty radiator than a body panel

When test driving the cars, is there anything i should be listening for that may indicate a bigger problem than what the car would be worth?

Guess thats really it.. the car will be a slow project, aiming to about 500WHP to keep up with my buddies GTO, but still want to be able to drive it and look good while doing the upgrades. I learned a few times, doing full projects suck at times because you start, get excited, rush, and mess something up.

From what Ive read lurking around the past couple hours, seems to be a good group of vets here, cant wait to start picking brains... but the ICE forum needs some help

Thanks, good to be here

I'm really hoping one of the cars I have my eye on isn't a piece... never know now days, looks like it would be a good starting point with the low(ish) miles and decent price (66k miles - $13k)

Thought about it, and it has been done... pretty "easy" swap too... but, although im not a purist, IMO the only thing that belongs under the hood of a supra is an i6, preferably with a big single turbo, but stock single or twins get the job done
