Getting ready for our second summer of owning our new baby. Last summer I bought my wife the car she has dreamed of since she was 14 or 15 yrs old (she's in her 40's now) hence the reason for my name on here.
I searched high and low looking for just the right car starting in April 12 and had numerous people helping me look (some are people who deal in classics), for the fourth of July weekend of 12 we went camping and two days before her birthday on July 1st we decided to take a ride to Petosky Michigan to get a bite to eat at the casino there. I was racking my brain trying to figure out what to get her as I hadn't found the car I was looking for, and her birthday was only 2 days away.
We went through Elmira and got on 131 and about a mile up, there she sat on the side of the road "For Sale"!
Thank God there was no one behind me or coming in the opposite direction as I immediately whipped a u-turn in my 3/4 ton Silverado and drove into the ditch in front of the car. My heart was almost beating out of my chest as I jumped from my truck (which had barely quit rolling) and was standing in front of the car. My wife was sitting in the truck totally confused as to what was going on.
There parked with 4 other classics sat a 1969 Camaro RS, I can still see the sunlight gleaming off the paint, chrome and glass. I couldn't get my cellphone out fast enough and dialing the number was difficult with my trembling hands. By this point my wife was standing next to me asking what I was doing.
The gentleman answered on the second ring and gave me all the info and price of the car (top end of the range I was looking for but heck she's worth it!) He told me that it was his buddies house and he would be home in about5 minutes with the keys so we could take it for a ride.
After I hung up I turned to my wife and told her about how I had been wanting to get her a 69 Camaro for her birthday and how many people I had helping me look. She stood there with her mouth open just looking at me like I was crazy (a look I get all the time from her LOL)
I smiled really big and told her it was an investment as the car was listed at a lot less than what it is actually worth.
We took her for a test drive, she runs like a charm, and put two hundred to hold her until I could get to the bank to get the cash. I'd been saving a long time for this one. The next day we raced back to the Tri-Cities and then back to Elmira to pick up the car.
On her birthday she had her dream car sitting in front of our camper!
Last summer she took awards at 4 out of 5 car shows!
Specs on car: Fully Documented
We are the third owners of the car that has 50k miles on her.
All original (except for paint) numbers matching true RS (X11), 327 engine, 2 speed power glide transmission, RS rims, all original interior.
