Question Sign me up - NW Suburbs of Chicago

Hey everyone!

I don't have a Camaro yet, just a few grand that I'm looking to start spending. I'd like to pick up a 67/69 stock and turn it into a Pro-Street w/ a 454, which is actually part of my first dilemma. I have a chance to buy a 454 Gen 6 with 170k miles on it for ~$600. I've always been more of a motorcycle guy, so while I understand basic mechanics and things of that nature (computer/electrical engineer by trade), I don't know everything about the differences with the 454 revisions. I've heard some guys bash the Gen 6s saying they are a waste of time, and some guys say that the Gen 6 is worth it as long as you are willing to go with an electric fuel pump. Any Gen 1 Camaro owners have experience with a 454 Gen 6?

Thanks, and I look forward to being a member of this community!

Welcome to the Forums. Nothing wrong with joining up early. I joined two years before picking up my Camaro. Let us know when you find "The One".

Welcome to CF. There's also nothing wrong with living in the N.W. Burbs of Chicago!

Welcome to the forum, your 454 question might be best asked in the 1st gen tech section, although I don't know of anyone of the top of my head that's running that engine. You might have to find a 454 forum in order to get that answered.

No one's running a 454? Or a Gen 6 454? Because every Camaro should have at least a 454 in it

Nobody here I know of, and I'm a small block guy. Go ahead, stuff that truck engine in there, I won't tell.

Glad we can keep it a secret My truck only has an Inline 5, so I have to put a beefy engine in something!

we have had several people running 454's around here over the years. When you asked... the first one to come to mind was 74454bb.... he won ROTM one time. I always liked his Camaro. unfortunately he hasnt been around in quite some time now. you should do a Member Search... Im sure you will find a few people.

heres 74454bb's Ride....
