roadrace/autocross guy checking in
I have been a longtime fan of the chevy corvette and camaro product lines, but have never had a chance to own one before. I have an opportunity to buy a '95 z-28 w/auto trans that is a bit rough (not too bad though) and needs an engine for $500 and I have decided to jump on it.
My dad was always a corvette guy and ran scca solo1 in his heavily modded '68 vette when I was a kid. When I was about 10 years old he switched to scca formula atlantic, the fastest class in scca racing. I spent my entire adolescence and pre-adolescence crewing for my dad at scca national events on the west coast. I am a mechanic by trade and have been working diligently on my fabrication skills. I have been working as a mechanic for about 6 years now, have 4 ase's to date, and went to the LA pierce college automotive program.
As a teenager I fell in love with the nissan 240sx due to it's affordability and rwd design. Over the years I got more and more serious about my little nissan and learned a great deal about suspension geometry, set-up, and design along the way. My 240 is currently being transformed into a purpose built redline time attack street class car, hence my need for a daily driver. I am doing a ground-up build on the chasis and suspension including a 6-point cage, stitch welded chasis, all un-necessary panels/brackets removed, custom fr/r lower control arms, updated rear subframe, custom koni coilovers, and a LOT of other custom stuff as well.
The plan for the camaro is to be my daily driver/trackday car. I plan to do a mild build on the stock LT1, swap a 6-speed, clean up the interior and exterior (maybe an ss spoiler and a front air dam at the most), and come up with a good all-around suspension and brake set-up. I want the car to be all-around fast and fun, but with all the amenities that I have lived without in the 240 (stereo, A/C, an actual interior, etc...). Luckily I only drive a few miles to and from work each day so I don't really have to worry about gas mileage!

so i take it the z28 has a auto. personlly i would keep the auto but thats up to u. i think u will have to change the computer, and more with the trans. if u do it right u should be able to pull 400 hp without to much trouble and get over 20 mpg. u will probly have the 324 rear gears so switch to the 342 or 373 gears, the way these cars drive u will want to drive it more than a few miles a day. welcome to the forum.

Right now there are 2 engines that I am considering putting in the 240 (probably sometime next year). I am either going to go with the nissan vq35hr or the gm ls1. I feel you on the v-8 240 thing man!
