New member from Montana - 68 RS Z28

Hi there. I just joined. A little about myself

1) I know little about cars, I'm a retired IT guy that bought a 1968 RS Z/28 18 years ago and have been dragging it around for 18 years until I retire to work on it

2) I'm not 100% positive it's a real RS Z/28 but all the indicators I've checked indicate it is. That said I'm hear to learn from the members about things to check. I'll be reading prior posts to learn more.

3) No, it does not have the original engine, it now has a 350 in it

4) It did come with a letter from an appraiser in 198 that said it was a real RS Z 28

Welcome, if it's a real deal Z28 too bad that original 302 is gone but that's no big surprise given it's a 50 year old car and z28's did tend to get run hard.
The Chevy book I have shows there were 235,115 Camaros built in 1968 and only 7199 were Z28's.
A true Z28 if it has original parts should have a Munice 4 speed,12 bolt posi rear end with multileaf springs and disc brakes up front.
Put up some pics when you can, we'd love to see it.

Thanks @Y2K,

Mine has front disc brakes, Muncie 4 speed, hideaway headlights, and the tag I checked seems correct although I know all that can be faked. This car is in rough shape (same as when I bought it).

I'll post pictures later today. I'll try to get all these tell tale items in the pictures I post.

Well one thing about it being in rough shape it's far less likely to be a fake than a recently restored car.
Does it by chance have one of these intake manifolds? The original aluminum high rise DZ302 intake will fit the 350,if it's still with the car that would also be a clue to originality.

It does have an aluminum intake that appears similar, here's a photo of that.

The cowl tag is as follows

03A 073
12437 LOS 31587 BODY
712 O-2 PAINT

My interpretation is 1968 Camaro coupe Corvette Bronze Vinyl Top Standard black bucket seats

Which is what the car has as it sits and as I received it 18 years ago.

Look pretty darn correct, it has the 12 bolt rear and multileaf springs, traction bars bolted on are old school aftermarket but period correct for a late '60's early '70's car.
That does look like the stock 302 intake,I didn't see a brand name on it anywhere. It probably just has a part number and the firing order cast into it.
Ignition is aftermarket ,Holley double pumper carb is not original but not a big surprise given 50 years since new.
Looks like the OEM wheels are even still with it,don't see that often on a car this far down the road in need of a resto.
You might want to pull the back seat out and or look on top of the gas tank for the original build sheet, that would be a real treasure and confirm what you have if it's still there.

Here are my pictures. It does have front disk brakes but I don't have a picture of that right now.
