Default New to forum, bought Camaro in 1974

Hi all, I bought my Camaro in '74 when I was a sophomore in college. I'm on a forum for every other thing I own, just did a search this morning and here you were!

Yes, my Camaro is filthy, but I just got my new Coy's wheels, and that inspired me to change the gas tank so I can drive it. The gas tank sprung a leak about five years ago and I just didn't want to mess with it.

Pics of the car from last night.

I know some will get on me for cutting up such a nice car, but you have to remember that it was just a five-year-old used car when I bought it.

Yes, that is a 70 Mustang gas tank. I got tired of pouring expensive fuel (45 cents a gallon when I did this mod) on my shoes, and losing half of it on the drag strip on launch. Plus, it holds 20 gallons, important when it is your daily driver and gets 9 MPG.

Thanks O, that's 78 Porsche Brocade Red, a 928 color. One of the guys on the ship had a 928, and I loved the color, so I painted it twice with the same color, once in 81, this paint job was in 83-84 (yes, it took a long time, I had to buy and drive an El Camino for almost a year). It was originally torch red (not as vibrant as today's color of that name).

The base is laquer with candy apple red and candy rootbeer stripes, and then gold pearl over it, with clear Imron as a topcoat (before clearcoat/basecoat systems from the factory, any factory). The materials are no longer available, I had to get open cans from Las Vegas to do some recent repairs.

It took a while to find you because I wasn't looking. I'd gotten wrapped up in other stuff, jet boat, rock crawler (you can see it behind the Camaro in one shot), stuff like that, and let the Camaro go. A buddy at work turned me on to the Coy's wheels, so I ordered up a set, and when I put them on, WOW. So, now I'm going to play with the Camaro for a while, get it ready for Highway 99 event in Bakersfield this fall, maybe drive it to work a few times this summer.
