Default From the land of OZ

Hello from the land of OZ. You know, Kansas. Dorothy, Toto and the Wizard of OZ.

I'm actually from Dodge City, which is a bit north of Liberal, but it's still southwest Kansas.

I love to rescue old classics from rotting away in the fields and put them back into circulation. Some of my past projects was a 1970 mustang Mach I, 1967 Ford Fairlane, 1984 Z28 and my last was a 1977 Trans Am. Well I'm really getting tired of dealing with all those bad floor pans and quarter panels, so yesterday I bought me my first 4th gen F-Body.

It's a 1994 Camaro that has apparently has some extensive changes made. Like usual, first thing I did was to get the numbers(vin cowl) and decode what it is. The first oddity was a 8th digit VIN# of S, which should be the V6, but realize it has a V8. LT1? Second oddity was decoding the RPO codes and seeing J41 : BRAKE SYSTEM, PWR, FRT DISC, RR DRUM, CAST IRON, but see my Camaro has disc brakes front and back.

So now I guess I'm going to need to check the car out close to see what other options have been changed. I sure could use some help letting me know what else I should be looking for like would my suspension have been changed? Anyway, I'm glad i found this site because this being my first 4th gen, I'm sure I'll have lots of questions. Here are a few pictures of the car. Maybe you can spot some stuff that doesn't look right.

Another thing that may not be an oddity, but seems odd from the info I read. It has a 150mph speedometer. It's my understanding that the V8's can come with a 150mph speedo, but the V6's had a 120mph speedo.

PS: the car will get up and go.

It could very well be a swap. While LT1 swaps are difficult and expensive they are not all that rare. Hopefully this is what happened because the v6 vin will help u out with insurance.

Welcome to the forum. I plan on doing a swap like that for mine. It cost less insurance and here there's a special tax on license plate whenthe engine above 4.0l.
