Default I've never been on a forum

hey everybody. This is the first time ive been on a forum and my first time (hopefully) buying an old camaro. I was hoping to get some ideas on what this particular one might go for. I found it sitting behind a shop. I didnt want to contact the owner until i had some base idea what its worth. Its a 1968 with a 327. The transmission is a wide glide automatic. The interior doesnt look too bad except for the ceiling falling down. The out side has rust and it looks like some of the panels have been replaced. The vinyl on the roof is decimated. The tires are flat and dry-rotted. I was told by one of the guys at the shop that it wont start. I know this isnt much information, but hopefully i can at least get an idea where to start. Thank yo guys. Frank

Welcome to the forum. Well if it's not the original engine/tranny then that's going to lower the value. I would say 5-8K from what you've described. Depending on how bad the rust is and how many panels have been replaced, it would be on the lower end. But if it is the original engine/tranny, then you can add about 5K for those, maybe more. Make sure to check the trunk, rocker panels and back shelf as those are normal rust areas on these cars.

Thank you guys. I took some pictures yesterday and I'm trying to upload them. I get this message:

you need 10 qualifying posts. you can open a photobucket account and download your pictures there, then copy the img code to your post and the picture will show.

Thanks. here are some pictures i took. Is there way to find out if its the original tranny/engine without asking the owner? Id like to learn as much as I can about the car before I approach him. I'm thinking all the panels are original, but the hood isnt. Name: cam15.jpg

Car prices is greatly effected by where you are. There is places in the South West that this would be scraped and places up North that it would be repaired. Here in PA we would probably restore it.

Is it an RS? (hideway headlight?) You going to need to get it on a hoist and check the frame rails and the trunk areas. I have seen a lot of cars that looked a lot better that and where not salvageable.

Assuming it is not an RS and not numbers matching and the frame is there and solid I would guess about 2-3K. Add 1K for RS and 1K for a rebuildable numbers matching motor. After saying that I have seen some very nice semi-finish "projects" selling for under 5K. Some already have all the metal work done. Your going to have 3-5K in metal work assuming you do all the labor yourself.
