Default Introduction

Afternoon all. I'm Duane and trying to find info on Camaro's.

Currently what I have going on is a 66 Nova 2 door sedan resto. I'm looking at doing trying to find a 2000 or so Camaro to pull the eng/trans out and put it in my Nova, then sell/part outthe Camaro body. What I'm trying to find out engine info, what's good, what to stay away from etc.....

Anyone wanna start point me in the right direction.

Also, I know I should try to stay as low as possible on a used drivetrain milage, but is there certain milage that people are having issues with, year engines etc.....

Thanks,
Duane

Couldnt you just buy a crate motor and call it a day? If not hope some 4th gen'er can help you out.

It all comes down to money, which I am sure you know considering you are doing a resto.

4th gen engines are all very bullet proof. That is one fact that just about anyone will accept when it comes to a chevy 350 (347=ls1?). Anyway, If you just want the engine, I would suggest an ls1 over an lt1, simply because It has more horsepower stock. If you want to alter it after purchase, I hear the lt1 is the better of the two to go for.

Could you give us some more info?

Body work on the car is almost done, currently has a TCI MII front end with Wilwood 12" disc and a Currie built 9" fordwith street/strip axles and Detroit trutrac locker, explorer disc brakes. Its gonna get a Grabber Orange paint job (mustang color).

Looking around I've seen some 00 LS1 cars for around 6-7K, in nice condition. If I can yank everything out that I need, eng/trans/harness, fuel pump, shift linkage, clutch hardware (if I go stick), headers/exhaustand thenpart out the car (ebay is easy, for say 2K minimal), I figure I can have a nice fuel efficient, hardy driveline for 4500, about the price of a crate eng.

Yep that was me. Thoughtyour name looked familiar.
When you find something let me know. My son that came with me when I picked up the Nova is into the late model Camaros and has a friend that works for GM andknows a lot about them. From talking with them they all say find a LS1 motor as there are a lot more aftermarket parts out there for them, and they make a lot more HP than the LT1's. You will have to use the puter from the car also to make it run. If you need any help in setting it up let me know I will get you all the info I can.
Nice to see you again
