Howdy. New to the forum.
20 years ago I built and raced all 3 years of the first gen camaro and although spending a bunch on doing a pro-touring 69, the 67 BBC equipped 67 was my fave. It did everything well except for passing gas stations.
I would go to the Friday night drags and with a little nitrous break into the 9's. Swap out the tires and wheels and change shock setting and run in the top 3 of the advanced group at the road course. 08-09 came and toys got sold.
A year ago I bought a little sky redline and although it was the cheapest vehicle I've ever been able to add 60hp to and I envisionsed getting back to the track I just knew it would never be the ride the 67 camaro was. Not raw enough or fast enough.
So I just bought another 67 camaro with the idea of somewhat duplicating the former 67, although an LS3 will power it and probably no regular trips to the 1/4 mile.
The former 67 had no fancy front or rear suspension, just subframe connectors, caltrack bars, rancho shocks, a built 12 bolt (that still leaked fluid) and some drop spindles upfront and QA1 adjustable shocks.
My budget isn't what it used to be so I'm going to build an 80% track car with some comfortable race seats, no fancy interior or paint job, stripped to be light and good cooling mods, no ac.
what I have forgotten that I hope folks can help me with is...what is the most cost effective rear end for road racing that'll be one and done, no constant working over? Best front end drop spindle or other arrangement to handle using existing front end parts other then new sway bar and new bushings? Comfortable but light race seats with grommets for harnesses?
I'm open to suggestions. It's amazing how much I've forgotten in the last 15 years. Thanks!!!
