Default Help identifying car...

I'm new here and I'm not an owner of a Camaro but would like be one someday. I have a question regarding a car I saw on the television show: Simon & Simon. It was in the episode: Pirate's Key. Now I had thought it was an Olds Cutlass Supreme, some model of a Dodge and then someone told me it may be a Camaro. I grabbed several screen caps of the car (sides, front and back) and large in resolution (1280x800) so I linked them instead of embedding them in the post since I don't know the protocol on this size image and the amount of photos. So, I will try to put the links to the photos.

I'd like to know the make, model, year and any interesting tidbits about the car, if possible.

Thanks!

Yeah, it's a really crappy resolution. I forgot to set the DVR to record at a higher quality but even watching the broadcast (not the recording) on my 40" HDTV I still couldn't tell what it was.

So, a Pontiac Firebird? That never crossed my mind. I asked my dad what he thought and when he saw the front on the tv he said probably Plymouth Barracuda but I thought the rear looked more like the 67 Camaro and the wheels also. I asked him since he was around 20 years old when he bought his 66 Chevelle SS 396 but he said he wasn't much of a Mopar guy so I've been looking at pics of Cudas but I haven't found any with tail lights like in the screen caps. I'll go looking for some Firebird pics and see if I can find something but so far the 67 Camaro is the closest I have found on wheels and rear-end-wise.

After reading a little bit, per Wikipedia, on the first generation Firebirds (67-69) they can be easily distinguished from the Camaro with its four round headlamps, whereas the Camaro only had two. I've Googled images of Firebirds, I see the four headlamps. The second generation (70-81) had two and four headlamps but the body styles I've found look nothing like the car I'm trying to get indentified.

I think what you have there is a '68 RS convertible either powered by a 6 cyl or 327.

Thanks Mikes 68! I came back to edit my last post because I've been examining 67 & 68 bodies and I noticed the 67 doesn't have what the 68 does: side-marker reflectors on fenders.

After I realized that, I checked one of the links I posted, http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/5643/sscar032di8.jpg , and deduced the 67. Plus the headlamps seem further out on the 68 than on the 67. The screen cap looks like it has the 68 headlamps.

Speaking of side-marker reflectors on fenders, my brother and his son are restoring his 68 Chevy C10 step-side and I've read that the most visible change in differentiating the 68 from the 67 was the addition of side-marker reflectors on all fenders.

I wonder if that was a standard changed in 68 on all GM vehicles or all makes of vehicles? Interesting.

Edit- Regarding side-marker reflectors:

Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 regulates the lamps,
reflectors and associated equipment for cars, trucks, trailers, buses,
multi-purpose passenger vehicles and motorcycles. It became effective on
January 1, 1968, for vehicles wider than 80 inches (large trucks and buses)
and on January 1, 1969, for the other vehicles.

Thanks again for your input!

Did they do a Canadian version of the Camaro? I know the Chevelle was a Chevy with a split grille and it was called a Beaumont. It was a Pontiac, but used a Chevy drivetrain with a Pontiac interior.

I'm not sure if there was a Canadian version.
