Default Harley Replacement

Hi all,
After nearly 50 years of riding Harleys as my sport/touring vehicle of choice I was forced to reassess my priorities after a horrific accident that totaled my bike and destroyed my right shoulder.

Being retired and into my 60's I decided, and my wife agreed, that it would be better to continue our touring travels in a fun car. She kind of leaned towards a Mustang but quickly agreed with my preference for a Camaro.

We went to the dealership and were surprised to learn they'd been discontinued for '25!

My wife found a '23 LT1 convertible on Carvana that had never been sold and we bought that. Our adventures in that have only begun.

Well enjoy but I don't see any car replacing the bike.

You're not wrong but it's a matter of circumstances. Even before this horrific wreck it was becoming obvious that my days of two up cross country touring were going to get more limited due to age related issues like occasional hip and lower back aches. I won't rule out riding again however it would be small radius and/or trailering.

Yeah I totally get it, in fact I'm 68 and currently at home recovering from a total knee replacement surgery last Friday.
I had it done in the dead of winter hoping to be ready to ride my Harley two up again in the spring.
I still work full time driving semi trucks to the landfill, glad to be taking the worst of the winter off from that as well.
I'll retire at 70 on 10/01/2026 and hope to still have a few more years of being able to tour on the Electra Glide before I have to re-assess.
I know a lot of guys go to a three wheeler of some type but for me if I can't lean it through the curves it just wouldn't be the same so I'd probably just get an open top roadster car of some kind and hang up the riding gloves.
Hope you and yours get plenty of joy from the car.

Nice bike!
My last one was a 2017 FLHTK I bought new. There was just shy of 50k miles on it when I hit a trash can that came out of a truck ahead of me on the interstate through town going about 60mph. Due to a pending lawsuit I don't share many details online.
My wife and I had been on a number of adventures on that bike that took us from the Atlantic to the Pacific as well as Canada to Key West. We have lots of photos and video to remind us of the great times we had on it.

The last time I saw it was at Zion HD in Washington UT where the insurance company had decided to total it out.

The idea of getting a trike does not appeal to me either.

I've been to Zion H-D a few times over the years, Southern Utah is one of my favorite areas to ride.
Mine is a 2019 Electra Standard accessorized to my liking when I bought it, it's my third Electra and second new one the last being a 2000 Classic I also bought new.
I put 200,000 miles on my 2000,the wife and I saw a lot of country on that one and it was a great bike.

Well it's great to meet another HD enthusiast here!

The decision was basically made for me when my bike was totaled but I couldn't ride if I wanted to anyway. After two operations I now have a 'reverse total shoulder replacement' and I still have months of rehab ahead of me. My wife has a little Royal Enfield Meteor 350 that I'd tool around town on when I feel like I can and anything else would be way down the road but I'll never own a full dresser touring bike again.

Same here, Camaros and Harley's seem to go together well.
I have a number of friends who also own both or a Vette and an H-D.
I've been a scooter tramp a long time, had dirt bikes and quite a few UJMs before I could finally scrape together the coin for an old kick start H-D Sportster, I was so proud of that bike!
There were quite a number of years where my 2 wheelers were my primary transportation if not only transportation.
40 years ago this month I moved up here into the mountains of SW Washington and had to invest in having a reliable 4 wheel drive, it's snow country here and I had a young and growing family to support but my scooter was still my main transportation weather permitting.
This kid will be 40 in August, WTF where did the time go?
