CamaroForums Newbie from Detroit, MI
Hey guys,
I'm expanding my list of forums to visit on a regular basis and decided to include CamaroForums.com! I ***** many other sites, and lately have been soaking up as much as I can in the LT1-specific forums.
My car has always been an "all show, no go" with a modified exterior. Grill, hood, ground effects, paint combo, spoiler, rims, etc were all modifications that I had to give my car the "go fast" look, but I only had a measily 3.4L v6 to back it up.
Well, in October I was lucky enough to land a STEAL of a deal for an LT1 engine. I bought the engine, 4L60e trans, engine harness, PCM, ... *deep breath...* and an engine bay harness, interior harness, all four rims and tires, both the driver's side door and the passenger side door, the whole rear hatch piece (glass, trim, spoiler, struts), rear bumper, rear tail panel... for $1,000. I honestly felt bad for the guy when I hauled it all away but he just wanted to get rid of it. I was able to sell most of the parts, and my v6 engine and v6 4l60e for $800. So, the engine, trans, harness, and PCM only cost me $200.
I dumped about $6,000 into the engine and suspension upgrades and with only 80 miles on the new build, I spun two bearings. I stupidly ran the engine for too long on 30# injectors with a 24# injector tune and it dumped over a quart of gas past the cylinder rings into the oil.
The engine has now been machined and rebuilt with all new pistons, rings, cam bearings, main bearings, and rod bearings. The crank was line bored 20/20 and the cylinders were bored 040 over to yield at 357 (356.666) ci LT1. Although my $200 steal has now turned into a $10,000 money pit. It's amazing how fast the nickels and dimes add up.
I've learned a LOT from the whole engine swap and rebuild process so I'm looking to share what I've learned as well as continue soaking up more information.

Welcome man, great looking car. That's a big deal taking on a transplant like that, looks like it turned out great though. Join us in the Off Topic section sometime.
