HI, I'm Cory I just found this site after searching around the internet. I just bought a 1996 Camaro RS today. It has the 3800 V6 with auto tranny. I'm familiar with many forums & am active with several of them.
I have one problem with the car since I bought it off the back row as a fresh trade in with now cleanup work done to it. It has the service engine soon light on. Since mty sales man is my neighbour I asked him if he could have the guys check out the code & let me know what it was. So they checked it for free & told me it was a P0300 misfire.
Here is what is going on with the car: The car starts up & idles just fine, but when you take off it sputters for a little bit then it comes right out of it & have good power. It doesn't do it all the time though, Only occasionally... Could this be a coilpack problem? It doesn't sound like it since It comes out of it & runs good. ( I have a grand am with the quad 4 so I know about coil pack problems LOL) Or would it sound more like an ignition module??? I think the car has the original plugs & wires so I'm gonna try that first.
This looks like a great site you shall be seeing more of me around....

sounds like a fuel problem. if its fuel injected, which it most likely is, the injecter may need a little dooshing. it is possible that it could be ignition, but not as likely. my 750 carb does the same thing until the car is warmed up a liil, and the fuel burns quicker.

PO300 is not a really bad code but could cover a number of things.
It could also be the plugs. As a general rule I replace plugs, wires, etc., on any car I buy. Cheap, and if it doesnot fix this it will avoid aother problems down the road. However I think the advice about looking at the fuel injection is worth doing, too.

Thanx, for the help guys!!! The car runs really well, just when you first press the gas pedal it sputters for a little bit then comes right out of it. The plugs & wires look like they are the ones that came on the car when it was new, so I'm gonna change them out first & see if that helps any.
I'll let you know if I find out what is wrong....
Is there an easy way to change the spark plugs???? There isn't a whole lot of room in there! Are they easier to get to from under the car? Have any tips for changing spark plugs in the 3800 V6 Camaro???

Hey guys thanx for the help!!!! I fixed my problem & it only cost me about $2. I dumped a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the tank & filled with fresh fuel, then right about 1/2 tank she came out of it & it runs great!!!!! Since then the thermostat stuck open so i changed it & all is well. I finally have heat for these cold Iowa winters.... brrrrrrrrr
