1969 Camaro rear end upgrades
Hi new to this - just got a 69 Camaro. I was told there are later model rear ends that will provide disc brakes. Right now I am non - posi and am looking to stay with same dimensions with stock as I have wide tires that will give me posi with disc brakes.

There are disc brake conversion kits for the stock rear ends.
Are you just looking for disc brakes or also a posi and what rear end do you have now 10 or 12 bolt? I'd expect if it's an open rear end it's probably a 10 bolt with single leaf springs which is fine up to a certain amount of horsepower. What are your plans for the car, big HP or just a nice cruiser? What engine and trans are you going to be running? I don't know of a bolt in correct size later model rear end with disc brakes. Another thing is what size wheels are you running, some won't work with later style discs. In short we need to know a lot more about your car and your plans for it. Congrats on having a '69,I sure would love to have another like the one I had back in the 70s and 80s. |
Rear end upgrade
Right now I have a 350 with an auto turn 350 10 bolt stock rear end. I have a built 350 with truck flow aluminum heads 500 hp I want to put a 700r4 and posi rear end just trying to figure out what needs to be. Thanks for your reply.

Well your best bet dollar wise is probably going to be trying to find a stock 12 bolt posi from a 1st gen Camaro or a '68-'72 Nova then do a disc brake conversion.
There are a lot of aftermarket options but it gets expensive real fast. At least you already have multi-leaf springs. |
Correct, buddy of mine paid about 4 k for one a few years ago, and I paid 5k last year for a years matching 12 bolt 4.11 posi for my 68
People use S10 rear ends in hotrods like 41 coupes and old Willeys (weak IMO) Not for a 500hp old Camaro IMO |
