z28 with an ss hood

I dont know anything about my car! I have a z28. I just got an ss hood, I still have z28 intake. I see it goes down to the side rather than up like an ss. Do I need to fix that? My car has been getting hot in idle, I'm wondering if they're related. When I start driving it cools down so I thought maybe its a fan problem. What do you boys think????

First off, welcome to the forums!!!

Ok, now to answer your questions:

1. Yes, the SS hood is functional, so you need to get the ram air box from a 96-97 SS in order for the hood to work

2. Our cars have an iron block, vs the LS1's aluminum block, so our engines are very susceptible to heat soak, so don't worry if it goes all the way up to the 3/4 mark in heavy traffic if its hot out.
However, you may still want to properly flush and bleed your cooling system. See here:
4th Gen LT1 F-Body Tech Aids under the "How To's" section. That website is extremely useful to help diagnose and repair your LT1 4th gen F-Body.

Let us know what year your car is so we can better help you, as there were changes between the years.

Post up some pics of your Z and as always,

Good luck and kill Rustanks!!!

What's hot? Before I grounded my fans to stay on 100% of the time my car would run about 225 degrees or so before the fans would kick on and this is factory normal
I like my cars to run 160 to 175 at all times that is why I did what I did to mine
But please verify your fans run there is no air in the system and no obstructions in front of radiator let alone having a good radiator cap

Oh and mine is a 93 as well and curious what the hood looks like

B0banna, did the previous owner do a front end swap on that car? And you might check here on how to post pics and what not:

Hot is not a problem. As long as it stays in the range, you are fine.
