z28 with salvage title

Hey~ guys:)Is it too much to payabout $1500 for 1997 z28 (30th anniversary) with salvage title?
I wanted to own one and finally found one with great price, but come to find out it has a salvage title.
Other than that, it has couple of minor problems. Seller is asking $1700obo. Im gonna ask him if he takes $1400-1500.
Is it a ok/good deal? or it's too much? Please help me[:'(]Thanks~~

depends on why its a salvage car. what caused it to get the salvage title? if you're looking for something to drive everyday and have it be reliable, i wouldn't go for this one. now someone like ali, me, slvr and a couple other guys who know lt1s and could use parts from this car, that's a different story. but if i'm in your shoes i'd say no go

Thank u for ur response.
Oh, ok. I will find out why it is a salvage car.
If the car wasnt in a bad accident or stolen, is that price decent? or should Iask him to go lower than 1400? sorry to ask dumb questions..:( I really appreciate your quick response!!!

it could have been in a flood too. if you go check it out and think its a deal...then go for it. i'd be very cautious though

i pulled mine off this guy who bought it from a GI from lousiana(who actually raced it)
found it was only firin off 6 cylinders-was sparkwires and plugs first. then had 2 new injectors installed. runs fine now. bought it for 1350 he was actually asking 1800. im at about 2600 for everything i have done to it.

I would ask what is the purpose of the vehicle? If it's to work on and not a daily driver then negotiate and get it. if the frame is straight, and the panels fit OK, and the clear coat isn't peeling, then you are in good shape. Interior and body work is more a pain in the butt than engine work. Of course it all depends of you do the engine work yourself. if you don't, then engienwork can become expensive.

Salvage titles should not scare you as a buyer if the car checks out and is priced right. of course, remember that come time to dump it, it will have that same salvage title and you will be the seller.

What kind of title you end up with can also depend on the state you live in. I once bought a salvage vehicle (theft recovery) from out of state. When I got it transferred to my name in my own state, the "Salvage" designation on the title got washed.

Yeah, Salvage titles tend to get washed out when you transfer from state to state.

I would get a carfax on the vehicle and see what the deal is. It will say it there was an accident.
I have a car with a salvage title - I just wanted the car, but Ididnt find out it had the salvage title until I went to register it. Nothing came up on Carfax except that it was sold at a police auction - so could have been an impound, theftrecovery, etc ..
If youre buying the car with the intent on putting money into it to sell eventually, I wouldnt bother. If you just want to drive it and get use out of it, and the car runs and works good, go for it.
