not a cargo van just a regular passenger van and i didnt think 146 was to bad for a 94 trans

 

Man, that really stinks. You've had nothing but problems with the trans in this car. Just out of curiosity, how have you verified that all of your wiring to the tranny is good? Have you chance taken the car into a tranny shop for a complete diagnotic check?

I think that just for peace of mind and sanity, it may be time to invest in rebuilt tranny with some form of warranty.

These 4L60Es are fine behind a stock engine, and they can handle more power than the rear end.

You can try to keep getting them from the wrecking yard, but you are just rolling the dice everytime you get one. Pretty soon, you'll have as much money and time and frustration tied up in the used and inknown trannies that you'll be wishing that you had just ponied up for a rebuilt unit.

While 146K may be alright for a tranny, you have no idea how the thing was driven or serviced. It could have been some teens first ride and they beat the crap out of it like a rented taxi.

 

the problem with rebuilding a trans (or getting a rebuilt one) is that i really dont want the automatic... every morning when i get up i smoke a cigarette and check cl for a wrecked Z28 with a 6 speed its become part of my routine... needless to say i havent found one yet but still have hope

 

Sometimes when cars are hit from behind the drive shaft will get forced up in the the trans. It was pretty common to get cars back a week after being pick up from the body shop now needing a rebuild. It has been a while but I think it knock the one way clutch apart them metal get into everything.

Also you really do not want a 6 cylinder trans. GM builds trans per application. A motor with 200 FT lbs of torgue may not have as many clutchs in the clutch packs or as many planetary rears as a car with huge back tires posi rear a 300 Ft lbs or torque.

 

So a buddy of mine knows how to rebuild these transmissions... only problem is he was in an accident and broke both his arms... I guess this will be a learning experience for me

 

Can you be his arms while he walks you through it? Half the job is knowing what to look for, the other half is having all the right transmission tools.

 

ya hes going to walk me through it and he said we can do it at his shop so the tools arnt a problem

 

Which tranny are you rebuilding? you still have the orginal one? It would be mice to have that one handy for the gear sets. I know the the L98 700R4 that used heavier gears set I can only assume the same is true for the Lt1. Your going to want a master kit.
