Where should I get a new LT1?
 

I need a new lt1 motor. I've looked at some places but the best deal is from gotengines.com it's a lt1 with 70k miles for $1600. Is this a good deal? It can also come with a 3 year warranty if I install the motor within 10 days. Let me know where the best engines are!

that sounds like a great deal if there warranty covers everything pretty much an they stick to it ,its not bad couse finding a lt1 used with under 100.000 ,though if you keep looking you may find a whole car for not much more an have the parts to sell ,used engines are gamble to me though if there well known for doing thing right then good ,but if it not actual miles ,when I did my swap iwas looking at an lt1 had 18.000 miles for $1000.00 so I would say the warranty is the most for your bucks hear ,the guys said not to chance couse I could not see the engine until it was at my door one with 70.000 should be pretty clean

It all depends on what flavor LT1 it is. If it is out of an F-Body that would be a decent deal.

If it is out of an Impala or Road Master, maybe not so much.

Also, is it from the same year car? There were a few changes to the Optispark over the years. I would be nice to know that everything you have will bolt right up.

It's from a 1994 Z28 I have a 1994 Z28 so it will fit perfect. Do I need to remove the transmission when I remove the engine ???

$1600 on a used motor with 70K on it is about twice what it is worth. You know that is going to be a parts only warranty and if it goes they are just going to send you another used motor to install. Also the warranty does not cover oil leaks which is common in motors that have sat on a shelf for extended time. 3 years ago I paid $1000 for a used Lt1 with 32,000 miles on it and the prices have dropped since then.

Have you done any research on how to remove the motors? These are not like old school cars the motor comes out the bottom.

Check out Rock Auto under engine then long block. If you look around you could be able to find a 5% off coupon, At least then you are talking remanufactured will all new seals.

If you still go this route you are talking about a 22-23 year old motor. The metal parts will be fine, you should tear it down and replace the ageing soft parts unless you want to be doing this over in 6-8 months.

Where did you find that engine from

Craigs list, I watch for over a year before a deal like that came around.
