What's a good MAF ?

Ok so after getting the car checked for codes, it shows the MAF throwing codes. I'm assuming it is not working correctly and I was gonna go head and take a gamble and just order a new MAF. But as I replace parts I want to put performance parts as the replacement.

Here is a link to Jegs with some MAFs for the LT1 (Not Spam...I Promise !)

Should I get the one with cold air tuning ? I do have a Cold air intake.

There is not alot of difference in each sensor. Color matters none unless you want it to match what you have in your car already, The size of the throat could make a difference if the rest of the intake and engine support it. There are no performance gains with a MAF, all this does is tell the computer how much air is entering the engine. If you have built a higher performance engine then a larger MAF may be needed so it will not bottleneck the rest of the engine. Too big and you will not get proper readings because the air pressure will lower as the air expands in the open chamber and this will slow the air flow, giving the computer incorrect readings and thus poor performance.

Oh yea forgot to mention. Removing the screen DOES NOT improve performance. That screen is there to act like a wind tunnel, making a uniform stream of air that has minimal turbulance, and also to protect the element of the sensor from debris. The turbulance in the intake plumbing can cause dead spots around the sensor which can cause poor readings leading to poor performance.

I was gonna order this one:

What do you think ?

The mods on the car are: Long Tube Headers, ORY, SLP Loudmouth I, SLP CAI.

Once I put the new MAF on is there any tuning I need to do ?

I was just gonna disconnect the battery for about 10 seconds.

You will be sorry that you spent the Money on that piece of junk. Do a search on the reviews.

if all you have are bolt ons and no head or intake work a stock one should work best. like massey says you can hurt your performance by over doing it.

Turbolag86 Jan 16, 2011 12:21 PM

Oh ok. They have a stock replacement at the auto parts store for like 150 or something.

So you think I should get a stock replacement ?

craby Jan 16, 2011 12:45 PM

yah if its not a rebuild, probly a cardone, u might consider using summit, they make a 75mm

Turbolag86 Jan 16, 2011 01:15 PM

Hey Craby, is this one ok ? Its a Cardone....I can't find the MM size though.

What do you think of that one ?

But I have a Cold air intake though, how would I tune it to run with the cold air ?

I'm kinda not understanding the MAF being thrown off by the CAI....when I put the CAI on I didn't even stop to think that the MAF might be thrown off.
