Default What is a good cam for a stock setup?

I have a stock lt1 that I am rebuilding and I was wondering if there is a good cam I could run with a stock setup. Im not wanting to change any of the springs, lifters, or anything else. Also, just FYI, I had the heads resurfaced and had a valve job done on them and I am planning on getting a new timing chain.

If you change the cam you will need to have your engine tuned to accept the new changes. Stock cams were not too bad on these engines but using something like the Corvette LT1 cam and the Corvette tune will give you a little more power and not be too much for the car.

the stock valve springs are adequate for the stock cam. Why would you want to change the lift without putting in better springs? Well, I understand why; because the supporting parts for a cam drive the price way up.

You could try it, and probably be OK. But to be safe, don't go over 4500 rpms if you don 't want to do it correctly.

you don't really have an option. the stock springs can't hold much more than the stock cam. so you're either going to get really lucky, or have major headaches. your choice

that's why I suggested not to go over 4500 rpm's

I like root beer floats
I like Coca Cola floats
I don't like valve float.

just get and lt4 hot kit, should have an intake mani, lt4 cam, springs, rods, and get some rockers... done, you successfully added 80 hp to your lt1 without losing any stock reliablitiy and spent maybe 1500 - 2 grand in parts

you can get more horses for less money than what the hotcam kit costs you, unless you buy it used
