Unhappy What do you think about my hose issue?

I have a 94 Z28. The pressurized heater hose that goes from the water pump to the heater core is leaking at one of the pressure fittings. I'm wondering if this is a dealer item only? Or can I get it at an auto parts store? Anybody have to replace it? It's real long and I'm hoping I can get it snaked thru like it is, without to much issue.

Which part is leaking? is it the hard line or the rubber line?

If it is the rubber line I ran into someone else that had the idea to cut off the crimp ends with a wizzer (a dremel with a cut wheel would work also and may provide a little more precision) than they just used regular coolant hose and hose clamps.

I would have done it a little different. I would have cut 60 - 75% through it than used a pair of cutters to finish splitting it. You can tell from the picture they cut just a hair deep but fortunately it was on the lower part of the flange.

I called the dealer. Part is available as a 2 piece set. N. O. S. $160 plus tax. So I took NJMikes advice and did what he did. Only once I got the top fitting off, the check valve fell apart in my hand. Looks like someone already had the valve apart because it was missing a part. The valve wasn't even working properly because of the missing part that was supposed to close it. So I knew then, it didn't make a difference weather it was their ot not. So I bought a 3/4" hose connector and just reconnected the two hoses. Bleeding the system took longer than the repair. Thanks Jersey Mike for the great advise.

Sorry man, I should have been a little more clear in my post as to why I mentioned it. I knew it was going to be pricey to replace and honestly not worth the price.

No worries man! Glad to help.

that is not a check valve but a restrictor. keeps the coolant from going through the heater core to fast so heat transfer is better, also the engine will not warm up as fast as its supposed to because even though the thermostat is closed you will have a pretty good amount of coolant going through the radiator. and nj all the air in a lt1 camaro will not come out even without a thermostat. final bleed needs to be the bleeder on the hose while the engine is running.

Good to know! So because of the reverse cooling if you have an air pocket you will always have an air pocket unless you open the bleeder screws? Not new to earlier SBC or the likes (OLDS and Pontiacs) but new to Gen II.

So warming the car up to just about over heating and shutting it down over night will not equalize temperatures and push the air out like on an earlier SBC?

it may on a rare ocation but normally no. the heads are a magnet for air when filling and will produce even more if there is even a small amount of air to cause a hot spot. we have a crossover pipe (steam pipe) at the back of the heads to allow for extra flow to cool the hot spots during high heat/stress conditions. https://camaroforums.com/forum/lt1-l...-system-66742/
