Default Went to go check out my buddies z28 i may buy.. Have a few questions...

Hey all, I stopped by my friends house to check out the camaro i may be buying from him. I have a few questions.

First off the car seems to be in good shape. it has 120,000 miles, and has rebuilt heads on it and such and quiet a long new parts list. But the car for some reason is getting no power in the car, or anywhere in the car. They told me they tried hooking up a new battery and still nothing happened. Anyone have any ideas why this could be? I didnt have enough time to do any troubleshooting myself since i didnt have much time. But i was wondering if i could get anyone elses thoughts on this.

Are the battery cables in good shape on both ends, terminals clean? Check fuses? Is Security light on when key is turned to on position? When was the last time they had it started? You really need to get it started and look at the oil pressure at normal operating temp to see if you have good oil pressure. Also be listening for any engine noise, white smoke coming from exhaust, etc. Check the coolant level and also color, oil, and tranny fluid.

could be anywhere from the battery, positive junction box under hood on right fender well,to the starter or anywhere on the ground.agreed you need to have it run.unless you are getting a killer deal and spot something obvious, keep mouth closed and buy.no power inside at all?any dash lights, door chime anything?

what is "no power"

do you mean no headlights, the horn doesn't go beep beep etc?????

or, do you mean that you turn the switch and it won't crank???

^^ he doesn't have any 12V anywhere.

This to me sounds like it could be a bad ground or your connections on your starter are bad, corroded or something. If there is antyhign bad on the starter, it can cause this. . One time i was driving, and sudenly i lost all power.. it was the conectionson the starter.

I would check grounds, check main fuses, starter then go from there.

^^^ yep,,, are u getting power to the fuse boxes, get the test light out and find out where the power stops. start at the battery and go from there following the main wires through the junction box to the fuse box. could be a fuseable link. they look like a bump in the wire, are not resetable and have to be removed (cut out) and replaced.

sorry about the bad explaination of "no power". When i mean no power i mean i am not getting any form of lighting, or anything inside the car, or anywhere else for that matter. Basicaly im not getting 12V anywhere.
