Waterpump shaft play

So, changed the WP, only to find the seal leaking.

Removed the WP shaft seal and checked the play and found this:

Does this look like too much play in the shaft? And if so, what's my next move here...

Thanks,

That's about how mine was, and yours appears to be normal. Seeing how the shaft is connected inside, I don't see how it's possible for it not to move. And once connected to the pump drive shaft, with the new tight fitting o-rings, it will be stabilized. With that said, your leak could have something to do with how the seal was installed. There's a right way, and a wrong way (which will make it leak).
Here's the right way, and others have used different types of install "tools": https://camaroforums.com/forum/lt1-l...ve-seal-43601/

Tighter than a....

Well, lets just say it was VERY tight after I put the new seal in.

All put back together tonight and seems good so far. I took it out for a 20 minute rip and it doesn't seem to be puking anything onto the shop floor.

I'll check again in the morning to be sure nothing dripped overnight.

I ended up using the cap from a tire crayon to put the new seal on...worked like a charm.
