uhh motor locked?
i tried searching the forums, didn't really come up with anything substantially helpful. i posted a thread about a $800 93 z28 last night so you can check it out if you want. anyways took the belt off and tried manually turning the crank today, it wouldn't budge. after completely mauling two 5/8 sockets i considered it locked up. is there anything else it could be? or any solutions? my step dad told me if you put it neutral and get it moving and switch it into drive it could break it free, or completely break everything. and somewhere else i read you can pull the plugs, spray some wd 40 in there and let it sit over night, then take a breaker bar to it. any recommendations? i really don't wanna get rid of this thing -_- my only other option is to buy new crankshaft main bearings and rod bearings, drop the tranny and work underneath it. might as well do a rebuild. also is it possible because the car sat for so long the cylinder walls rusted and locked up? in that case even if i broke it free it would ruin everything correct?

How long has it been locked up and why did it lock up? Pull the plugs and put some tranny fluid down in them and let sit for a couple days. (at least it works on ole tractors........sometimes!) YOu might be able to break it free if it is just locked up from sitting. You definitely don't want to switch it into drive while it is moving or you will more than likely break the rings at best and then it will be trashed as well. Are the plugs out now? if not remove them to make sure there is no water on top of a piston or something.

idk either of those, i bought it from the guy, he said it ran. for 800 bucks i figured even if it didnt ever work i could part it out and get my money back. it probably locked up from sitting from too long, the cars had its oil changes on time. its got 156k

Yeah I hear ya! I have a 94 Z I have the heads off of now. Picked it up at a really good deal. It was running when I bought it but blown head gaskets with water in the oil. Figured if I had to, I could find a donor engine and still get my money back if I needed to sell it. I can''t remember the mileage but I think it is something like a 120k. Got to get motivated and get it back together.

wellll,,, have you checked the plugs to see what they look like. i would consider trying to recoup the money and start over. otherwise if your up for it, look around at the local wrecking yards for a lt1 with low miles. make sure it runs. you are going to have to strip alot of the car to clean and inspect.

I've known guys to have a frozen engine, got it freed up, and it ran fine. Not saying you'd definitely be so lucky, but it's worth a shot. It all depends on why it doesn't want to turn over. Pull the plugs and let it soak as suggested, then try to work it loose. As long as the problem isn't with the bearings being toast, then it's the rings that rusted themselves to the cylinders. But that doesn't necessarily mean the engine is garbage.
