Transmission Question
I have a 93 Camaro Z28 and I am not sure of the transmission that is in the car. I am currently purchasing a new transmission and need to get the right one so I need your help. The 93 Camaro came with either the 700R4 or the 4L60E. Does anyone know how to tell them apart. The transmission place (Mad Dog) said that the 700R4 has a five prong conector on the drivers side and that the 4L60E has a special plug in on the drivers side. I have a reciept for the last transmission that was put in the car and it has a part number of 868961. I have contacted the previous owner who was sure it was the 4L60E. The transmission place tells me that I have a 700R4. Can anyone help me with this?

RE: Transmission Question
You joking right? I have done alot of research and since this is the fourth transmission put in the car I think I do know what I am talking about. Apparently the first half of the manufacturing year they built them with the 700R4 and the second half of the year they built them with the 4L60E. Thats why you can't buy a programmer for the 93 Camaro Z28 because the computer does not control the car like the later years.

RE: Transmission Question
To the best of my memory the 93 came with the 4L60 ( no "e" at the end, which stands for electronic). The 4L60 is the same as the 700R4. The 4L60e was used from 94 on and is a different animal. The 4L60e needs a computer or stand alone electronic module to control it. If the car uses a TV cable, it does not have a 4L60e transmission, and uses a 4L60/700R4 instead. Not all 4L60e are interchegeable, depending on what they are being used on, they can have one piece or a two piece bell housings, different tailshaft lenghts, different mounts, different bolt patterns. So be careful on which one you pick.

RE: Transmission Question
Now you tell me, just kidding. I had a long discussion with the tech at Mad Dog transmissions and he told me I have the 700R4 because of the five plug. If it is the 4L60 without the E than I wonder if I could use either transmission. I can't wait for the build up to be complete. I got a Godfather transmission from Mad Dog for $1170. It is the NHRA certified that can handle over 700hp. I did have them install the stage two shift kit so it would still be street friendly. My car should all be complete this week and ready for the weekend.
