TESTING A WATER PUMP... IM, I CRAZY OR DOES THIS WORK?
hey. im new here.. allreadys searched the fourms found nothing..
just got a 94 beater camaro z28 lt1 .. and theres no spark so im replacing the opti.. but at the same time my buddy gave me a water pump that he took off a car with cracked heads.. he told me its a good pump... after putting all my old parts on the newer water pump.. i thought to look at the pea hole for water run off spots... it looks like oxidation to me so i made something up and put my lips on the water pump and blew air into the pisser hole.. and it lets air in... this means it bad right?
allso blew air into the pisser on my old pump and i couldent.. seems to be sealed so im guessing it good...
thanks guys

Yuck... You blew the pisser hole!? [:'(]j/k
For future reffrence that hole is called the wheep hole.
I would go for a remanufactured unit. Really you should not be able to blow pressure past the seal that weep hole is there for. In the event the water pump shaft seal bites it that hole is there to bleed off the pressure/coolant. A little weep happens but a steady drip means time to change the pump. Oxidation means that you may be doing this job agian sooner than later. Damn pumps cost an arm and a leg I know. Best of luck.

anyhow i was reading a post that u replied to about the opti **** story and im going to to buy a new water pump. so it dont leak on my newer opti.. and allso replace the water pump seal and cam/distributer seal... but pass on the crank seal cus it wont leak on my opti...
is the crank seal really worth doing? my car has 120.000 on it
