Default Sputtering?

I have a 96 auto z/28 that is sputtering and struggles to shidt correctly at WOT up over 3k rpms. If i give it less than WOT it doesnt sputter. The car has a SLP Catback and a CAI. Is it the O2 sensor or does the car need to be tuned for the CAI and exhaust? Help please...

Do you have any codes? How old are the plugs and wires? Have you checked the fuel pressure?

dont know if there are any codes but there is no SES light. Im gonna go ahead and replace the plugs and wires and see if thats it. I have not checked the fuel pressure will do it when i get a chance though. I just want some ideas of what it could be. It drives me crazy. Could it be The ignition?

96 Z28, that gotta LT1 in it, right?

Now that was a dumb question on my part!

It wouldn't hurt to try and get codes. One can replace parts all day with these cars and still miss something that cause them to act up.

os is right the CEL bulb could be blown an O2 wouldnt make it run like that pretty much all that would do is mess up your air fuel ratio plus it would set off a code id say get the cel checked and hook it up with a good tune up (more than just plugs and wires it sounds like your trans could use some servicing too maybe a filter and fluid change) and no a tune isnt required for just an exhaust and a cai but couldnt hurt (check out pcmforless.com im pretty sure they have free re-tunes too)

edit also can the opti act up or does it just go im not sure i have coil packs

try and find someone with a scanner that can diognos when the car is running. 96 is obd2 so you should be able to with a good obd2 scanner. at least scann for codes. could be fuel or spark so fuel pressure test is in order. do you know how old the opti is? change fuel filter when you do your plugs, youll be under the car anyways. im thinking the opti failing could do what your explaining.

I have no idea how old the opti is. When i have the time im gonna take it to my dads friends shop and have him hook it up to the diagnostics.

Low resolution codes are typically a sure fire optispark issue.
