Default security light

Today I got into my 95 z/28 and noticed my security light on my dash was on. I tried to start the car and nothing. A friend of mine told me to lock all the doors and then from the outside manually unlock a door with the key. This worked and the car turned over. What is this security system and how does it work?
The friend tells me someone tried to get into my car?

ignition bro. simple as that. My ignition wasnt sending a signal to the security module and therefore my car would not start, everything came on but the engine. Now you might want to see if buying a new key helps (the pellet could have gone bad) or you might want to have your ingition switch checked to see if its sendling the relay to the security module.

It kills the fuel system (for sure) and starter I believe. As Tweedle Dee said, it could be the "pellet" in the key has gone bad. Have you tried disconnecting the battery to see if will reset? If the security system got dorked up somehow (and key is still good) this should work.

I don't think so. Look at the threads I've started... Only about five, none of which ask "what's the best mod for my car". My previous statement wasn't a knock on you, merely a light remark involving humor.
