Default Rear disc brake question

I've got a couple of questions on the rear disc brakes on my 94 z28. My Haynes repair manual doesn't show much. First, How can I adjust my hand brake system as to take up the slack on the parking brake lever. The pawl goes almost to the last tooth. I looked at the rear caliper and cables and could not find any adjustment to take up cable slack. My pads seem to have a fair amount of meat left.
Second question, I've noticed that my rear brake pads does not make contact with about 1/2" of the inside of the rotors surface? This seems like alot of wasted braking area not being used. Is this normal? The vehicle stops o.k.

I don't know to much of the details, but I just changed my rear pads the other day and I just wanted to let you know that I did NOT see any part of the pads that where not making contact! Don't know if that means mine is screwed up or yours!

The adjustment is done at the parking brake handle. Pull the handle back all the way 3 times and it should self adjust. There are no other adjustments except for brake pad clearance, which is factory set on the rear calipers.

All of your pad should definitely be making contact with the rotors. Have you had to stand on the brakes really hard? Maybe it's possible that the rotors are warped.

Ok gentlemen, my bad for wording my brake problem wrong. The face of my rear pads are apprx 1 1/4" wide and is making full contact against the rotor. My rotors surface is 1 3/4" wide, so the pads does not contact 1/2" of the inner part of the rotors surface. My rotors are not warped because I don't have any pulsation. Brake foot application feels ok but I drive an 18 wheeler all day so this feel light to me. Maybe I'll just remove one side and compare it to a set from the local auto parts store. Thanks again for all of your inputs.

Mike
