Random oil psi levels.
When i first start up my car my oil psi stays at 60 to 80. after a bit when it warms at idle the psi drops to 20 when im driving it then goes up to about 40 to 60. and some later on when the car is completely warm if i hammer on it the the psi does not get over 40 and when im shifting real fast it drop to bout 10-20 when the rpms drop and goes back up when i put it into gear. Note I do not have a windage tray. Dont know if this has much to do with it and I seem to be having some oil come up out of the dip stick. any ideas?

I switched to a K&N oil filter to get a little more continious oil pressure, it is a little longer with more paper filtering inside for better oil flow, it work for this !! Since switching oil pressure is up 10lbs at idle and at least 15lbs at 2k rpm. Try one and see, they are 14 bucs but worth it !

Oil pressure is acting normal, how many miles on engine? What weight oil are you using? Oil coming out of dipstick tube could be an indication that the oil level in the crankcase is too high and getting whipped by the crank (this will make prssure drop when pump picks up foam, may want a deeper pan to handle the extra stroke), PCV not working properly, or too much blowby past the rings due to wear.

Yea i will try a k&n, Motor is brand new. just built about a 1000 miles ago. well I was a dumbass and drove the car around for about 900 miles without o2 sensors because the guy that built it said it was fine. Think that could have burnt the rings? all the extra fuel. There is no white smoke and car runs great. But anyways. My oil cooler is bypassed and Like I said I dont have a windage tray because it kept hitting my crank and did not have time to get on ordered due to moving. Think that could cause the possible foaming?

My other question is, is the psi suppose to drop so much under heavy acceleration when shifting. and when I really get on for some reason in 3rd or 4th the psi actually drops a little below 40. maybe its fine I , guess thats why im on here lol.

If the car accelerates really hard, the oil can get pushed to the back of the oil pan and the pickup may be left high & dry and sucking air, which would cause temporary oil starvation and low oil pressure, until the oil sloshes back. A windage tray would not fix the problem, but a baffled oil pan may.
