Default Possible cam swap

For the car in my signature, i am looking into doing a mild cam swap. I dont want to have to change the stall converter, rear end gearing, computer, etc. Looking to spend as little as possible(and keep the car reliable because its my dd).

Ive never done a one before so i need a few questions answered

What do i absolutely need for this project?

Recommend some cams that would work with little other changes to the car? (I was looking on texas speed and performance, possibly a comp cams 212/218 or comp cams 305..)

How difficult is it to do?/ what does it involve?

How much power will i gain? Ill also installing a CAI at the same time.

Thanks in advance!

No matter what cam you chose you'll want to get the PCM edited. Since you have a '93 you'll need to find some place that can do the MEMCAL chips. You can check out PCMforLess.com or you can try to find some place local to you. Many people run the cc305 and like it for a DD cam. In addition to your cam you're going to need new valve springs, roller rockers, it would be smart to get new lifters although it's not a required element. The dificulty of the project is going to depend on how much you hae worked on your own vehicles in the past, but it's a reasonably involved project that is going to require some time. You're going to have to pull the intake manifold and the front cover in order to access the cam etc.

I'm going the stock stall/rear gear route, with a bunch of expensive stuff from Lloyd Elliott, and his personal advice to me (and he knows for sure how to make his customers happy) is to keep intake duration numbers down below 220. Obviously it depends on all of the cam specs, but each individual part of the cam generally reflects the rest of the specs (i.e. you prolly won't find a cam with 218/246 .515/.620 specs, haha). I think you could get away with the 305 if you've got the 3.23 rearend though.

Edit: BUT, whether this all works well or not depends on your tune. You'll definitely want a good dyno tune, to keep low rpm driving up to scratch.
