Default Optispark Connector Differences

I have a new reman vented optispark. I'm trying to plug it into my 95 lt1 camaro, but the plug on the optispark has a slightly different tab arrangement inside the connector so it won't plug into the existing 95 harness.

Did GM change the connector on 96+ cars?
Do you think I could just file down the one plastic tab inside the connector so it will plug in?

Thanks

If it does not fit, I would not modify anything, sounds like a good way to fry the PCM. Where did you get the opti from? Take it back and tell them it does not have the proper connector....or does your car have an engine and/or PCM from another year?

Mine looks like the top pic. We I replaced my harness, it had those little tabs on each side of the connector that kept it from going into my opti's plug. Snipped them off and I've been fine.

I knew my opti was correct, I just had a harness issue. Your situation may be different so proceed at your own risk.

Mine looks like the 95-97 style, the grey female plug inside has two little tabs that allow the plug to only go on one way, the original one from my car has them both on the same side, where the new one the tabs are on each side of the connector.

I'll try to take a pic tonight when I get home from work.

This may sound stupid, but you are plugging it in the right way, right? The gray connector should be up on the manifold, the blue down to the opti.

^ So basically, you're asking if he's trying to plug it in with his eyes closed?

Look at the plastic part of the plugs. The plug at the manifold has markings where the wires go into the end "1-2-3-4", or could be "A-B-C-D". Look closely, they're tiny. See if there are corresponding numbers on the opti plug. If the old and new are configured the same, then do all the tab trimming you need to do on the plug, you won't hurt a thing.
