opti-spark....go figure....help

So this is the third opti that has went to crap in 3 months. All vacuum lines going to it are hooked up. Just a stock oe one for the 396. Seems like it advances an A** load and just falls apart. Anything over half throttle and 5500 rpms will destroy it, I'm thinking i got an extremely crappy tune. And opinions would be greatly appreciated.

where are you getting the opti and what kind?

^ My thoughts exactly, don't buy the K-Mart brand! ;)

maybe he gets waterpumps from the same place as me and they like to bathe optisparks

Good question. It is a real OE (Delphi) unit or something that you are finding on eBay for $100?

Got it from carquest so I could put it on my shop account, got the money back so I ordered msd and and a coil so i'll let you guys know. The last ones little screws for the rotor came out so I'm starting to think it might just be from vibration seeing how I'm running open headers getting the exhaust done Friday

So far so good with my MSD opti. Loctite on the rotor screws will help to hold them in place.

Also just give the plug wires a quick once over...if you have aftermarket headers I have seen many a wire burned on those and the opti- receiving all the blame :-)

newcamaroguy 07-05-2010 12:37 PM

Yeah, wires are good. That's always the first thing I check when she breaks lol.
