From opti to coil packs
 

Just wondering who, if anyone here has switched their opti system over to a coilpack system. I've replaced my opti twice in 166k miles and I was thinking of going to a cpack system next time. Here's what I've found Fix Your Opti-Spark in an Hour or Two

Curious to know your guys opinions and what you have or would do?

One of our members (Greenarrow) converted his to the LTCC system. I know he liked the performance better than the opti, you'd have to ask him if he thinks it's worth the cost and work to do. He doesn't come around any more but may respond to a pm/email.
And as far as I was aware, you couldn't buy the Delteq any more?
Also, keep in mind these systems only bypass the spark portion of the opti. You still have to keep the opti for ignition timing.

mounted the box on the driver side and ran wires behind the booster, using online mounts for the coils #12573190. tied into the solid pink wire at the coil harness. took wire out and did away with the tach module cut and connected ltcc pink wires to the pink wire and ltcc white to white wires and tucked them back in the loom. get new plug wires on fri or mon. msd wires are a little on the long side. lol. got some new ngk laser iridiums im going to try. see if i can get a little better life outa them. supposed to be harder to foul them. they come today. oh joy i get to change plugs

its cheaper to do it his way, its 4 bills for the ltcc module, not including coils, mounts and wires

Im kinda still following the Delteq swap myself. Sounds good and read mostly good from users though some that didnt have a good running car to begin with werent able to get it working. Read mostly same from LTCC owners to. If car was working well before install the owners seem to have more success installing the LTCC (or Delteq).

So is delteq still in business anyone? Theyre w/s looks like its still ready for business. Read good things of the LTCC Baily system too though dont like installing 8 coils unless needed.

Most problems ive had with the opti has been using other than AC Delco optis. Did have one bad AC Delco but had a dealer put it in after i bought it (didnt buy their part) and it didnt last long - less than a year. But so didnt that chevy dealer as they got the boot from GM during the corporate down size.

If u go for the Delteq please give us some feedback as it helps us all.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize you'd have to keep the opti for timing but it makes sense. I hadn't seen the ltcc, only the delteq but I'll keep everything in mind if I eventually try to swap over. I just got a new opti in a few weeks ago though and car runs great. I had a misfiring wire for a while, didn't have time to get it fixed. When I finally did, the previous opti failed a few months later. The mechanic said it was due to having that misfire for so long. Guess next time I'll try and take care of any misfire asap.

I checked into this a couple of years ago when I had my LT1 Vette. Don't get too attached to the Delteq idea, as they went out of business 2008~2009. If you have a bad opti causing running problems, you still need to replace or repair it if going with a Bailey Engineering LTCC setup, or the engine will still run like crap. My opti was bad, and I replaced it with an MSD unit and was more than happy with it's performance. The LTCC as an upgrade to an already good running engine is one thing, but I couldn't justify the cost putting on a brand new opti and then an alternate ignition unit on top of that.

EFI Connection has a coil per cylinder set up that eliminates the opti all together and allow a double roller timing chain to fit but it is pricey.

Otherwise, a OEM Delco unit should last the amount of time as the original.
