Default No 1st Gear on Shifter

I know this question is going to sound really really stupid, but I have to ask it. Why don't I have a 1st gear on my shifter?I just have D OD 3rd and 2nd. Keep in mind this is my first 4th gen Camaro I've ever owned and I've only had it for a few months, but I know my 3rd gen had the option to put it into first if I wanted to.

My question to you is, why do you need a 1st gear option? The transmission is all electronically controlled and will shift as fast as it can, at redline at wide open throttle. Put it in OD and go for the gold! The car has more than enough torque to make it up almost any hill in 3rd gear.

I just don't like the time it takes for the car to kick down from 2nd to 1st. In my 91 I had the option to put it in first gear so I could slowly roll away from a light and if I wanted to step on it 1/2 block from the light it would take off rather than have to wait for it to kick down to 1st. Do any 4th gens come with the option of a 1st gear on the shifter?

I would go out and look at mine if I could right now and tell you. [&:]

With my car if I'm in second and I put the petal to the floor it shifts pretty quick, but to each his own I suppose.

if you leave it in drive it should still hit 4th gear. dont AOD's have a separate separate gear that drives when in OD? ie, its not that u have a specific overdrive gear, but the gear that connects to ur tranny gears is different when in OD or Drive

i mention that because in my old carolla, i had od. if at highway speeds and I were to push the OD off button, the rpms would jump about 500-700rpm. thats not a whole gear shift from 4th to 3rd, thats like a half shift, which is what made me think an input gear was swapping out and OD was the tranny equivelant of a final drive swap

Yea it is ODand then D, but after that is 3 and 2. I just wish I had the option to put the car into 1st gear whenever I wanted.

If you have OD, D, 3, 2 that means you have a 5 speed manual, which would have had to been swapped in because the 4L60E is a 3 speed with overdrive.

And Spec, I'm pretty sure when you hit the OD button it just shifts the car down to 3rd, which is usually it's 1:1 ratio.
