ok so i fixed a messed up ground on my car and it started up and what not. took it out for a little drive and the thing shut off on me while i was doing 110 mph, which needless to say kinda freaked me out for a second. i think that the altenator might have gone out and the battery was drained but i'm not sure. right before the car died i shifted in to 4th gear from 6th which should have put the rpms almost at 4900 but the gage said 4000 and i had not acceleration. i took it out and put in 5th which should have been 4000 some but it said 3100 with not accel. any ideas anyone?

 

Sounds like a bad alternator -- get it checked.
