New member with water pump question
Hi everyone. I'm a new guy to the forum. Been working on cars all my life (I'm 55) but not much on an LT-1. I need to change the water pump on my 97 Z28. I ordered the car new so I know the car well. My question is, can I do just the water pump without changing the opti? I'm retired so I am trying to save some cash right now. Another 2 weeks and I would normally get my Z out for the spring/summer season but when I moved it yesterday I noticed the leak. So, is it possible for me to drain the coolant and cover the opti with a trash bag till I get the pump off and make sure it stays dry? Thanks in advance.

yes you could. how old is the opti? while you have the pump off it may be a good idea to pull the cap off and see how she looks on the inside. if the opti is old, 50-60k miles then it would be a good idea to change it. have seen them go for 100k so if no money then you gotta do what you gotta do right.
