New gears

I went from stock 323's to Richmond 410's this week. I used the installation kit, additive and clearances are fine. No major issues during install. However on deceleration it hums a little or whines a little, tough to describe, its not loud. Accelerating its fine, coasting in neutral it goes away as well. Reading other threads could it be that this is normal? I put 30 miles on it today, none hwy and its still there. Thoughts? First race of the year this weekend, I really don't want to take it apart again.

93 Z auto, Thanks.

Normal? If you used Richmond gears....maybe, otherwise no. Assuming you have all new bearings, one likely reason for deceleration whine is the pinion gear being set too deep into the ring gear. That, or your oil level is too low. Did you follow the manufacturers setup instructions to a t?

Oops, meant to add this, just in case you were bored and looking for something to read:http://www.ringpinion.com/Content/Ho...structions.pdf
Your gears may require different setting specs, so use this for reference.

BL, paint markings was perfect with manufactures directions. Starting to second guess myself with the pinon depth as you said. Fluid is fine. Crap. Any fixing this now? more like 50 miles on er..

richmond gears are going to whine no matter what you do. they tell me the high tempered steel does it.

Thx for the link 69er, good info there. She didn't break so that's always good, and I made 8 runs. 13:24@103 weighing 3650# in good air for those interested. I need another two tenths though to make the class i want to race so I'm a lil disappointed. Converter I guess is next (mine flashes to 2700). Also without starting a new thread my 1-2 shift went from 5250 to 5750 which is too high. Gov in the trany controls that on a 93? thanks.

93 Z auto.

Did you recalibrate the speedometer after the gear change so that your computer knows the car's true speed?

craby May 18, 2014 08:40 PM

93 is both electric and gear driven so you will need to change at least one of the plastic gears. Speedometer Gear, Ratio Adapter, Speedometer Cable, Speedometer Gears

I did not. I'm on it, thanks.

I checked out the link and I understand that will fix my speedo. But will it fix my shift points? As in I thought the shifts points on the 93 were done via the governor in the trany. Also, another thing I don't understand is why it shifts LATER (5250rpm to 5800rpm) going from 323's to 410's. I would think it should shift sooner.
