My cam is unusually quiet

Hey guys, just off topic for a second here but I have been a member for a few years but forgot my account name :/

Anyways, I recently installed a 280xfi cam in my 383 and it sounds way tamer then I thought it would. Ive talked to a few people and none of them have any advice for me aside from maybe removing the cat on the car. The exhaust I have is the slp loudmouth with pacesetter mid length headers, it has a aftermarket highflow cat but Im not entirely sure thats the problem. I have seen videos online of the 280 and it sounds nice and chunky but Im not getting that. Any ideas?

Maybe your idle is too high for it to lope? What is it set at right now?

when you stroke a motor the longer stroke has an effect on the kind of cam you can use giving more time for the valves to be open and leaving more room for bigger cam. the 113 should give you some choppyness but i dont think youll get much of a lope. is it tuned, if so what tuner did you go with.

The idle is set to 800, I have lowered it temporarily just to see what it would sound like around 600 and even 500 and still no lope to it. I had it tuned through PCMforless. The guy from Golem engines that built my bottom end recommended the 280, I hope it isnt too small to get what im looking for out of it.

how were the rockers set? how is it performing?

I have the rockers set 1/4 turn past no clicking (forgot the term of it), it runs well. I dont get on it very often but there is power when your hit the gas if thats what your asking.

You got to ask yourself if you want power or you want a loping engine. A loping engine does not always equate to a powerful engine.

From what I've seen they do have a nice lope, should put around 420 to the wheels and run 11.5x-11.6x at the track with good heads, LE2 etc.
