Where did you get your information saying the STi has a weak top end? The STi heads easily outflow a mildly ported LS1 head on both intake and exhaust for mid-lift flow, meaning it's going to have a good power band all the way up to it's upper RPM. Top end is all about horsepower, so the only thing working against the STi is it's AWD drivetrain. The STi 6-speed also has much better ratios than an A4 or T56 for that matter in racing terms. The USDM STi also has a 4.111 rear end, so that's not going to help the OP. Unfortunately if the STi can drive you're probably going to get walked. The STi has a better transmission for racing, slightly less HP, but much less weight than you. The only advantage you're going to have is around 30 MPH where you're making more torque than the STi. If he's upgrading his DP and getting a tune you're toast (his new BOV isn't going to do anything for him though...shove that in his face a little). Good luck sir...

You'll probably be pushing around 300RWHP, but that said you have a 200lb weight disadvantage, which still puts your buddies STi ahead. Trust me, I've raced STi's from a roll. Even with a manual and 4.11's you'll still get taken providing your buddy can drive, and that's out of a stock STi. You may not get "smashed," but he should walk you.

my roommate has an 04 STi and we race all the time. I have a 94Z just like you w/ CAI, Catback, and a mail oder tune (PCMforless.com) and he walks me every single time. SLVR is right about the top end...we have raced to 20 to 140 and i didn't make up any ground whatsoever, so that is a common misconseption that needs to be cleared.

On the flip side of that, my roommates friend also has a 04 STi, but he cant drive so I rape him by a couple cars everytime we race. Poor guy ran a 14.9 with a mint STi with 30,000 miles on it.

Anyways, if he can drive at all...ur toast
