Default Lt4 Question

Does anyone have any experiance with it. Good horse gain, quarter mile time droped. But Im just talking about the Lt4 hot cam, 1.6 rr and the springs. Not the heads and intake manifold. Thanks

I put a LT4 cam in my old 94 becuse one of the lifters had broken and chewed up the cam. The 1/4 mile times showed a slight improvement. The ET wend down by an average of 1 tenth and the MPH went up by about 2. The cam killed some of the bottom end, which was no big deal as the stock tires couldn't handle it anyway, and it seemed to pull harder on the top end. The idle got very lumpy and loud. I used the stock stamped rockers, and that may be the reason I didn't notice more improvement.

Pete, did you use the LT4 cam, or the LT4 Hotcam. The hotcam is deffinately more agressive than just the LT4 cam. With the 1.5 rockers, the LT4 cam isn't much different than the LT1...

I used the LT4 hot cam, but I did not use the 1.6 ratio roller rockers that go with the LT4 package. The combination of low friction rollers and higher lift would have probably added an extra 20 to 25 HP.

i gonna do the LT4 hot cam kit, with the 1.6 rockers, and valvesprings. With that im also doing LT4 heads too and timing chain. I heard with just that it will put me around somewhere between 350-375hp. So a nice gain consisdering the price compared to other heads and cam kits.

Also this question is for peat, and was wondering if i can get this LT4 timing chain to fit my 93? If so how would i get it to fit?

To use the LT4 chain, which is a very good idea, you will need to chenge the front cover with one from a 96 & up LT1 or LT4. The cover will have extra sensor fittings which you won't need, and that you will need to plug off. Also the 93 does not use a MAF sensor, so the PCM will definetely need to be tuned. In your case the MEMCAL chip will have to be changed or flashed.

I left the bottom end alone as a bearing inspection showed it was in good shape. With the hot cam and the wrong rockers I was pulling 13.8-13.9 ETs @ 100-102 MPH. If you are referring to the ZZ409 cam from TPIS, I never dealt with it, so I really have no opinion. However, they are not well known, so my concern would be with the quality of their stuff, especially a cam that is not properly tempered and crumble apart and damage the engine.

We should start a "Ask Pete" thread!

On the other hand, do some '95's also have the different front cover, because some of the cams say for '96+ some say for 95+ and some say that the '95 could be either. Have you ever seen a '95 with the newer front cover or not?

Also, would the LT4 chain work with the '95 front cover? It looks like the only difference between it and the '96+ is the area to attach the cam position sensor, and the metal around the distributor hole being a bit thicker. http://www.automotiverebuilder.com/ar/ar99928.htm

The people ive talked to about the zz 409 say its a good daily driver upgrade cam. But i also talked to people about the lt4 stuff and they said it wasent worth it unless you were getting a decent deal on it.
