Default LT4 conversion. is it worth it?

i am wanting to do some mods to my LT1. is the LT4 worth it? are there any other ideas that will still keep it a daily driver but add some horses?

from what I have heard no.
lt4 parts are expensive and not much better than lt1 parts. and if you are going to swap the heads and cam you might as well go bigger than lt4 anyways

depends on what you mean by lt4...are you talking the lt4 hotcam kit? or are you talking heads and everything? if you're just talking the hotcam kit, then its not a BAD choice for how much money you'd be spending. granted, there are a lot of much better cam choices you could go with that will get you a lot more horses and still be an easy daily driver, but you'll also spend more to get those. if you're talking about heads and everything, then bad idea. port your stock castings, match the cam to it, and you can be making some very nice numbers and can drive it daily. it also depends on if you have emissions, auto or manual, proper supporting mods for the cam changes...the list could go on

then you are starting in the wrong place. start with a cai, headers and a catback exhaust. then you're going to want to put a higher stall and probably some gears in. then i'd tackle the cam or head/cam package. all those things are pretty much needed for a cam

I would say the same thing exhaust helps. And listen to me on this get 4.10 gears it is so nice my car is stick and what a difference.I was thinking about 3.73's but don't waste the time 4.10's feel factory.I ported my stock lt1 heads better than lt4's and i did it for free (i have all the tools) But even with all the stuff i have done to mine the gears have made the most difference of all.

i getting my lt-4 conversion done w/gmpp heads,lt-4 hotcam, elderbrock lt4 intake, bowtie 1:6 ller rockers ,reburnd chip, msd dist, mallory digital 6 box, coil, bbk 52mm t-body,bbk headers,hi flow cat,mac catback,nx 75 shot spray, granitile fuelpump, new waterpump.timingchain, gears, new adj fuel pressure reg,new 30lb injectors, this 93 z-28 lt1 has 89,700 on the clock,,,,,THE big thing is its 15 yrs old,and crap wears out, when torn down,at start, intake was leaking oil, valve covers leaking, when heads removed gaskets showed beginings of seepage of coolant, also when rad. was drained rust from bottom came out, rad. shot.My take is you just cant change out a couple of parts and dream its going to hold up.I could have gone a diff direction, supercharge,or use a picnic basket of diff brands of parts to try to get same result,I like that for the most part its all been on production cars 96 vette,97 ss,if it worked ok on them it will work on mine. Also the car its ready for stroke job to 383 someday,w/new bigger valves, waymore volume, flow, intake improved, headers, hot ignition, etc.Im having this done as i type,by some great guys at ELD perf, in MD.Once you start theres no end!!

go get the basics cai, headers, y-pipe, MAF sensor, cat back exhaust, programmer and some gears. Then get a lt4 intake with 58mm TB 30lbs injectors.
high performance fuel pump, Trick flow 2.02 heads and Comp 306 cam, 1.6 roller rockers, and U. drive pully kit, and move on to electronic's
