LT1 z28 Stock Vs 2005 Stock Corvette

Well today after school I was crusing around and a 2005 corvette pulled up along side me and reved its engine at me and dropped down a gear and I also floored it (I have an auto) and took off. I easily passed the bastard and lost him by what he said was 3 car lingths. We went to about 120 to 125 and i was still pulling away from him. I stopped along the road out side of town and talked to him. He wanted to know what the hell was under my hood. I told him that it was a stock LT1 and only has a TBB on it. And he **** a brick.

My dad found out and was screaming at me. He told me i only had 275HP and torqe. And said that the corvette was f'ing wit me. But I know it wasn't and my dad wont beleave me.

So all i'm asking is why did I beat the corvette?

My car is Stock except a TBB and has new ZRi Fuzion Tires on it. I some how pull off a 110 1/4 mile.

All my dad can say is that the car has always been hot.

Why?

A stock LT1 will not beat a 2005 C5 in a real race. Even the very slowest of them (auto trans with the 2.73 axle ratio -- do they still offer that ratio) will be over a second faster in the quarter mile (12.9 to about around 14.0). In fact, I can't even imagine a modified LT1 winning that race unless it was so modified that it was obviously not stock (i.e., it would be obvious to you it was not stock).

So, what happened? Well, assuming you are not making this up (I'm not saying you are, I'm just saying few people are going to believe you), there is one possibility. This 'vette might have the paddle shift automatic, and the driver might have had it in "manual shift" mode by accident. If this is the case, then he though it was in automatic mode so all he had to do to get it to kick down was to floor the throttle, but instead, when he floored his car to race you, the transmission would NOT downshift : it would stay in top gear, pulling strongly, but not THAT strongly.

I've had this happen to me in my Porsche, which also has paddle shift, when it was brand new and I had not yet learned its habits. I was rolling along at 40 in 4th gear and the car was in manual mode but I didn't realize it (I won't explain, but there is one way the trans can pop into manual mode for about ten seconds without it being obvious). Some kid in a Honda challenged me and when I floored it, very little happened -- except I figured it out about two second later but by then he was several lengthes ahead. So, I "got beat."

That is the only thing I can think of, except that you were incredibly foolish to run up to 125 on public streets. Next time a cop might be yelling at you, not just your dad.

LT1 camaro's were factory rated at i believe 290hp and 350ft lbs of tq, all i can say in the corvettes defence is that he wasnt flooring it until he saw you pulling away, he might have down shifted but that doesnt mean he was flooring it. But still, I know what you mean its nice to smoke a $45,000 dollar car, LT1's are very responsive to mods. LT1's are also great off the line because of the massive tq.

This one smells like the Viper killer and the gutted cat. Especially a stock Z28 pulling a 110 MPH trap speed.

Well its true.

Thats I'll I can say.

During that summer my friend beat on it the 1/4 track outside of town in his Mustang GT and he tore it up and I can barily beat him in the 1/4.

And that corvette was drove by a local track racer and was auto. He said he only got 102 in the 1/4 on average.

Anyway the LT's own the lower speeds and the LS's have the upper speeds were HP matters.

But I don't know if my car has a chip in it or not. The only reason I say this is cus my dad says don't mess wit the car its good enough. And it stays level with my teachers corvette that is a 1995 modle and has the same engine as mine but has a chip.

Well I have the second fastest car in my town. The only thing that can beat my is a camaro 74' with a really suped up engine with like almost all edlebrock in it.

oh ya i'm in the military and the cops round here will race you in there crowns off the green light at the middle of night when main is cleared. I know I raced my friend and he was on duty.

The only thing they don't go for is drinking and driving and it don't matter how good of a friend you are to them then.

No, you are kidding yourself. Stock for stock, LS1s own all the speeds, from right off the line to beyond the LT1's top speed, and if you mod one you mod the other, and the LSxs respond better to mods.

There is nothing wrong with an LT1 - great engine, but we try to be realistic here.

And a C6 vette doing 102 in the quarter? That's about 10 mph low. Something wrong with his car, really wrong.
