Default LT1 Waterpump

My z28 has a CSR electric waterpump. Well today while I was looking for a vaccum leak, it decides to lock up and started making the plug smoke...lol. So I pulled the pump motor off....Im not a fan of electric waterpumps...for that reason. What would it take for me to put a LT1 waterpump back on?

is the front cover hole for the pump pluged or ? is the cam timing gear/sprocket already setup to drive the pump? you will need a front cover with the hole in it, cam timing gear with the drive gears on the backside for the pump driveshaft, wp drive shaft and bearing with retainer and retainer screws, wp driveshaft coupler and the seal for front cover. http://shbox.com/1/engine_front_diagram.jpg

I Just pulled the little motor off and left the water pump housing....So I need to pull the housing off to check if it still has that stuff.

As much as I don't prefer electric water pumps, it would be easier and may make more sense to service yours or replace it with another electric pump. You have a lot of back-peddling to do to go back to mechanical, and frankly I don't think I would.

i guess it depends on how the install of the electric pump was done. if done right and all drive system is gone then it would be cheaper and easier to just rebuild or replace the electric pump. if the job was a quicky and the shaft is still sticking out of the front cover and is operating then he would only need the coupler and a oem water pump.

Do they make a cone shaped plug to cork off the hole with the shaft still there?

i was thinking a quicky that would leave the shaft there without a cover. would sorta do away with the idea of not leaking oil from the water pump shaft.

Yeah the timing chain cover is pluged as well as the WP. So I guess I'll have to painfully pay too much for a electric motor....lol
