Lt1 v.s. roadmaster

good luck on your swap. I can tell you from experience that you are gonna need more than what you listed above. What year is the trans? Did it come out of a camaro or firebird? What year is the computer you are using? How many channel is your ABS? what ABS did the car you pulled the computer out of have? Oh and there is more...

Its a 4 channel abs unit and a 4 channel rear end. Im not sure what year trans it is, but he's selling me the engine, trans, computer, and harness together and he was running all this in a 94 camaro as well with no issues, so I don't think there would be a problem there.

If this is of any help. The iron heads used in the Roadmaster engine actually flow better than the ones used on the aluminum LT1 as they were designed later. However, the more noticeable difference comes from the camshaft. The iron engine camshaft produces more low end torque in order to get the 5000 lb Roadmaster moving, but produces less HP. Other differences are in the exhaust manifolds, water pump inlet and outlet pipes.

Because they are made of iron they are much heavier, and transfer heat away more slowly than the aluminum heads. Therefore, the iron heads cannot handle as high a compression before detonation takes place. When all is considered, in most cases, the aluminum heads are a better proposition. It all depends on heavy a vehicle you are trying to make move.
