96-97 obd2 is limited, tunercat seems to be the one to use.

thread-jacking, sorry

What is your take on mail-order tunes? Part of me would rather actually sit down and talk to somebody and tell them exactly what I have and what I want, and they can do it that way. I looked at pcmforless.com, and I didn't like just checking boxes and hoping that what I get works out.

with a obd1 you have alot more software to chose from. i used the free stuff datamaster for looking. have not learned enough to try tuning myself. ive got a new tune coming from lt1pcmtuning to see how solomon does.

I bought Tunercat's LT1 Pro package for my 94. It's really helped, especially the datamaster Logs.

It really paid off when I did my 2.73 to 3.42 swap. it was a breeze to re-program for the new gears.

I run 245-50-16 stock rubber around town, and the MT DR 255-50-16's at the drags. It's nice to be able to re-program for each scenario.

I am still learning, so I only working with the trans right now. My experience with software is go slow, one baby step at a time, and keep track of the changes. Then use time slips, and datamaster to evaluate the results.

Any other Tunercat or other Lt1 tune product users out there?

I have tuned with tunercats and LT1 edit and the best option is the LT1 edit in conjunction with an afc. You can fine tune the car with the afc in "real time" and see the results instantly then you can change the settings in the pcm with lt1 edit. This eliminates the aggravation of having to make a lot of minor changes and reload the flash prom pcm with the tune (2-5 min. ). Feel free to pm me if you have ?s, I have a lot of tuning experience.
