LT1 Build
I was doing some LT1 shopping and I came upon Golen's Engine. I read their article in GM Performance and, hear good stuff about them. So I inquired on one of their 393/520 hp. The engine priced out to around 10K. A little high but still in my price range. Talking with some fellow forum member said that I should try to build the engine myself to save on the money. That sounds like a great idea. I received the specs for their 393 and, I believe I can do it faster and cheaper. So just take a look at the specs and let me know your ideas for any changes.
Block: GM 1 pc Factory LT1 roller cam block, bored and honed with torque plates .030" oversize, 4- bolt mains with ARP main Studs, zero decked, line honed, race preped, new brass freeze plugs and cam bearings installed.
Crank: Eagle 4340 forged steel, internal balance
Rods: Scat 4340 Forged Steel rods with ARP rod bolts, 6"
Pistons: Mahle Forged Pistons with coated skirts
Rings: Mahle Performance Moly rings
Bearings: Clevite H-series Performance
Camshaft: Comp Cams Hyd Roller 236/242 duration @ .050", .554/.574" Lift 114 LSA

i assume you want the best of the best, right?
also, what are you looking for horsepower wise? are you planning nitrous later on?
look into compstar rotating assemblies. i would way rather use a callies crankshaft than an eagle crankshaft but maybe that's just me. find a respected engine builder in your area and get their thoughts on it too. being in nashville, y ou should be able to find at least one that knows what they're talking about, lol.
if i were to do this tomorrow, i would do something along these lines
callies dragonslayer 3.875 crankshaft
diamond forged pistons
manley connecting rods
let the machine shop put the bearings and what not into it.
then talk to advanced induction about the proper heads/cam/intake combination to achieve the goals you have set for this engine

You know me all to well Whammer. My motto: Go big or go home. I have 10K to play with so its the best of the best. My Goal is atleast 475-500 RWHP and I want something with low compression so, I have a option of supercharging it later
build a stout 383...its cheaper than doing a 396(in my opinion it doesn't sound as cool though, lol) and you can makes TONS of power out of it. talk to ron or phil at advanced induction, they are both good guys and will steer you in the right direction. you can also call and talk to lloyd elliott, he's also a magician with lt1 heads. lloyds site is www.elliottsportworks.com.

Thanks Whammer. I'm going with the 396 route however. I talked to Ai and I am looking at either there Trick flow 215 cc head or their 200 cc head. Its the same price either way. The 215 is set up more for competition when the 200 is set up more for street/strip. What are your thoughts? I'm trying to go with a weekend driver/pro stock.
