Am planning on looking at a Formula bird tomorow that supposedly has a z28 engine in it. How can I identify it to be sure its an lt1 or ls1?

what year is it? if its in the same generation as the LT1 camaros, then it probably has an LT1 in it

 

1993-97 F-body V8's are LT1, and if it's 1998 and newer it would be an LS1.
By the way, the aluminum head LT1 isn't a "Vette", "Camaro", or "Firebird" specific engine. It's the same "GM Corporate" engine that was used in all of them.

 

but if it is an iron head it probably came out of a cadilac,buick,caprice etc

yah i posted a couple pictures of a lt1 i thought someone might post one or two of a ls motor.

 

lt1s have a very distinct intake than lt1's very different, the intake on the pics is same as lt1, ls1 has the rounded look like this
